Namiki Maki-e Art Showcase & Pen Clinic

Pilot – Namiki Customers in Singapore were treated to a special experience at a special Maki-e Showcase held at the Japanese Embassy’s Japan Creative Centre off Nassim Road.

Mr Atsushi Takizawa, a “Pen Doctor” from Pilot Corporation Japan, was in Singapore to tune nibs at no cost. Mr Takizawa spent hours painstakingly adjusting problematic nibs and customising the writing experience of each pen to the liking of each individual user.

Pen clinics like these are commonplace in Japan, especially at large department stores. However, they are extremely rare in Singapore – the last such clinic by the Platinum Pen Company was organised by retailer Aesthetic Bay at Ion Orchard.

Visitors to the exhibition were also invited to test the iconic remake – the Justus 95 – as well as the full range of Pilot nibs mounted on Pilot’s Custom Heritage 912 pen body, amongst others. Also on display at the exhibition were a number of prized pieces from renown Namiki artisans and the recently launched “Hina Dolls” collection.
