In just one decade, Anuj Poddar and his wife Smita have transformed AP Limited Editions into one of the leading names in exquisite Maki-e masterpieces. In this exclusive interview, Inky Passion speaks with them about their story and the brand’s direction for years to come.
In a release dated 22nd January 2016, Faber-Castell AG announced the death of group chairman Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell. Von Faber-Castell passed away at the age of 74 in Houston, USA after a severe illness on Thursday, 21st January. He was surrounded by his family.
Launched to commemorate the brand’s tenth anniversary since its founding on the 19th of February 2006, the AP “Great American Bald Eagle” is a numbered, Limited Edition of just nine fountain pens created by Maki-e shi Fujino-san. Created over a period of seven months, it pays tribute to the Bald Eagle, a majestic bird native to North America, and which also features prominently on the Great Seal of the United States.
The Visconti Opera Master Red Swirls Demonstrator is handmade in Italy, and features red and white resin swirls encapsulated in translucent acryloid. The fountain pen is fitted with a 23 kt palladium Dreamtouch nib characterised by a distinctive crescent breather hole and traditional Florentian fleur-du-lis emblem.
What makes the Nightline Moonlight unique is the fact that raden is not merely sprinkled on the pen, but applied very deliberately in rectangular blocks. This demands extreme accuracy and concentration, as each rectangular block is made up of many smaller rectangular blocks and there is negative space, which creates the appearance of black waves.
The Namiki Yukari Chinkin Matsu is a cartridge-converter fountain pen manufactured by the Pilot Pen Corporation in Japan. Accented by a two-tone gold nib and sword shaped clip, it features the traditional Japanese maki-e technique called “chinkin”. Also available in the Yukari Chinkin Series are the Tsuru (Cranes), Susuki (Silver Grass), and Sakura (Cherry Blossom).

Three Namiki Limited Edition fountain pens were stolen from local retailer Aesthetic Bay during a daring theft that took place yesterday. The pens included a Namiki Emperor Setsugekka, Emperor Polar Bear and Yukari Royale Nyoutan Namazu. The Emperor Polar Bear has a retail price of approximately US$14,000 and is part of a 99-piece Limited Edition in 2009 by artist Seiki Chida. The total value of the three pens is estimated at approximately S$55,000.
